Security forces nab six militants including two overground activists

IMPHAL, July 4: Security forces have claimed to have apprehended six activists belonging to different militant groups from various parts of the state.

According to a release of the PIB, troops of 16 Maratha LI of Loktak Brigade today arrested one activist of UNLF from Moirang SIribol in Bishnupur district on July 4, identified as one private Lishangkham Nonguk alias Shantikumar, 30, s/o Budhi of Moirang Siriboi Ward No. 7, Bishnupur District.

On the other hand, on the same day 33 Assam Rifles of Loktak Brigade under the Red Shield Division along with Bishnupur police commandos apprehended two overground activists of PREPAK from Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai in Imphal west district.

The arrested over ground workers have been identified as Wahengbam Khomdomba Devi, 55, w/o (late) Salam Samjay of Laphupat Tera Mayai Laikai and Khumukcham Lala Singh, 54, s/o Thoiba of Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai, said a release of PRO PIB (Defence Wing).

Meanwhile a release of the SSP Imphal West has informed that Imphal West police commando arrested one activist of the UNLF from Porompat JNIMS crossing on July 3, identified as one Ningthoujam Birjit Singh alias Naocha, 25, s/o Tomba of Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai.

According to the release, on further verification, he disclosed himself to have provided shelter to cadres of the UNLF at Nongmaikhong ans has further helped in transportation of arms and ammunitions with another associate identified as Irom Tombi Singh of Tera.

Another release of the Imphal west SSP has stated that another activist of PREPAK was arrested from Jiri Parking on July 3 who has been identified as one Yumnam Bokul, 33, s/o Nipamacha of Pombikhok Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur.

In yet another incident a team of the Imphal East district police commandos have claimed to have arrested a cadre of the proscribed KYKL on July 2 from Chajing Karam area at about 5:30 am in the morning.

A statement issued by the SP Imphal East district identified the cadre as one Urikhibam Jateshwor Singh alias Inaocha, 40, s/o U. Hemchandra Singh of Chajing Karam Awang Leikai.

According to the release the cadre has disclosed that he is an active member of the KYKL organization and that he joined the outfit in the year 2006 through one Raju.

He was also involved in extortion of money from the general public, government officials besides providing shelter to KYKL and transportation of arms from one place to another, it added.
