IMPHAL, July 13: The district fisheries officer of Imphal East had allegedly assaulted one social worker inside his office chamber at Imphal East DC office complex, Porompat.
Speaking to media persons today at Manipur Press Club, social worker Shagolsem Suranjoy stated that the incident happened on July 11 at around 2:30 pm when he went to meet the DFO, H Biramani at his office chamber along with the president and general secretary of Mayai Lambi Ngayok Marup to discuss matters related to loans and subsidies of fish farmers.
During the discussion, the escort personnel of the DFO suddenly dragged away the president and general secretary and started to beat them up for no reason.
The DFO even hit him on his head with a revolver. They were handed over to Imphal east police and later produced before the court, though they were all acquitted by the court today, said Suranjoy.
Further, he accused the DFO of indulging in corruption claiming that he would demand Rs 50000 to Rs 150000 as departmental fee from various fish farmers’ societies.
He appealed to authorities concerned to take punitive action against his high-handedness.
