IMPHAL, August 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh has today criticized the Congress led SPF government of the state for its failure to tackle the present indefinite general strike called by the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee, which has resulted in the sudden price hike of essential commodities in the state

In a press conference called this afternoon at its Nitaipat Chuthek, Imphal, president of the BJP Manipur Pradesh Sh Shantikumar Sharma, mentioned that the party has been monitoring the worsening law and order situation in the state, which has been only helped by the present demand of the SHDDC for a separate Sadar Hills district.

Further criticizing the government for its failure to maintain law and order in the state, he mentioned that it is the responsibility of the government to chalk out suitable policies and programmes in the state so as to maintain law and order in the state and to enable the government to tackle any pending issues of the state.

He has further stated that the failure of the state government to settle the issue of Sadar Hills despite the Chief Minister himself announcing the demands for a separate Sadar Hills district as genuine is the act of an irresponsible government, which should be condemned by all.

Further questioning the motive of the state government in delaying to find an amicable solution to the Sadar Hills issue even after announcing the demand as genuine, he has added that the entire state has been affected by the issue and further delay in finding an amicable solution by the government could amount to communal tension between the various communities residing in the state.

The state BJP president has further criticized the SPF government for its failure to take action against the NSCN (IM) even after it has time and again announced the militant outfit’s involvement in various violent cases in the state which had left many dead and many scared for life.

Further elaborating he stated that even though the Chief Minister had announced before the media, about NSCN (IM) cadres’ involvement in the recent Sangakpham blast which had killing four civilians including two school going children, the government has failed to take up any visible action against the outfit.

While patting the BJP led NDA government at the centre in the past, he has also stated that it was the NDA government that had withdrawn the three words ‘without territorial limit’ from the ceasefire agreement signed between the NSCN (IM) and the centre after understanding the pulse of the general public of Manipur and had finally restored normalcy in the state after days of turmoil in the state.

Further coming back to the present Congress led SPF government in the state, he has stated that it is very unfortunate that the government has failed to control the NSCN (IM) cadres whose camps are extensively operating in various hill districts of the state.

He also criticized the state government for its failure to take immediate measures to control the unwanted price hikes of essential commodities in the state allegedly by shopkeepers taking advantage of the on-going indefinite general strike along the NHs of the state called by the SHDDC.
