IMPHAL, Aug 27: A Chinese hand grenade was found at the southern side of RIMS OPD at around 12:30 pm today.
According to police sources, the bomb was placed by one faction of KCP. It was first discovered by the security personnel of RIMS.
Later, an unidentified caller informed the head of ophthalmology department that a hand grenade was placed at the OPD.
A team of Lamphel Police rushed to the spot and recovered the bomb which was wrapped in a newspaper.
RIMS medical superintendent, Prof P Shanti stated that the bomb threat is condemnable amidst problems of shortage of drugs and other essential products faced by the hospital due to ongoing economic blockade.
The hospital is an institution where people come for treatment and not for entertainment, he asserted. “Even God cannot forgive the perpetrators, if people were killed in the bomb attack”, added Prof Shanti.
