Breast feeding week observation kick- start State

IMPHAL, August 1: The 19th world breast feeding week is also being observed at the state. The observation was started from today at the Institute of Co-operative Management (ICM), Lamphelpat organized jointly by the Community Food and Nutritional Extension Unit (CFNEU), ministry of Women and Child Development and the state department of social welfare.

The observation was attended by G Satyabati, director of social welfare department, Jina Potsanbam chairperson NCUI- women co-operative Education project Imphal and Kh Dr. Somerendro director ICM and S Roy Choudhury officer-in-charge CFNEU as chief guest, president and guests of honour.

Speaking at the function, G Satyabati spelled out the importance of breast feeding in building relationship between mother and child. She added that breast feeding enhance the emotional attachment between a mother and her child.

She further stated that creation of supportive family environment is needed for a mother to breast-feed her child.

The theme of this year’s observation was “talk to me! Breast feeding- A 3D experience”, was coined by the World Alliance for Breast Feeding Action (WABFA).
