Clarion call for wide observation of Patriots` Day on August 13

IMPHAL, August 11: Various organizations including student bodies and political parties have called on for wide observation of the Patriot’s Day commemorating the victims of August 13, 1891 Anglo Manipur war.

A statement issued by the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to all sections of the society for mass observation of ‘Patriot’s Day’ and to pay befitting floral tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives in safeguarding the sovereignty of Manipur and to make the sacrifices more meaningful.

The statement further urged the authority concerned to include the grim reminder (Anglo-Manipur war 1891) of the Manipur history in school syllabus of primary to university level to elaborately enlighten the younger generation on the historic event.

The All Manipur Students’ Union has informed that altogether 201 schools of the state will observed the Patriot’s Day.

On the other hand, the Manipur state council-Communist Party of India has also informed that it would observe the Patriot’s Day, August 13 at the Irawat Bhawan of Manipur, Imphal. It said the CPI will pay befitting floral tribute at the portrait of the two late leaders Thangal General and Bir Tikendrajit.

At the same time, the Manipur Peoples’ Party in a statement has informed that it will observed the day at its head office located near the Polo ground.

The general secretary of the party in a statement has appealed to various sections of the society to widely observe the day and pay befitting floral tribute to the martyrs who made extreme sacrifices for Manipur.
