CM launches latest passenger vehicle from Tata motors stable

IMPHAL August 16: Tata motors launched its latest passenger transport vehicle “Tata Iris” at Gandhi Avenue, Thangal Bazar yesterday evening. The vehicle was unveiled by Chief Minister O Ibobi who attended the function as the chief guest.

The vehicle has been launched in the state, during its nationwide launch yesterday, as Tata Motors felt that the region has a viable market for the vehicle and will aim at competing with the three wheeled diesel autos.

Speaking at the function, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh stressed upon the need of the public to have more awareness on traffic rules to lessen the traffic congestion in the main bazaar area of the state capital.

He said that the number of vehicles plying in the streets is not proportionate to the traffic space available in the city and suggested that four wheelers should be purchased on a need basis and not as a luxury item. He mentioned that the newly launched vehicle will be able to provide earning means to the numerous unemployed youths. The launching event was also attended by minister L Jayantakumar, MLA Radhabinod and MLA Bijoy Koijam. The Tata Iris can accommodate five passengers and would cost Rs 1.95 lacs.
