`Conditions of fasting Sadar Hills women deteriorating`

IMPHAL, August 19: The condition of the group of women who have been on a fast unto death agitation at Kangpokpi demanding a full fledged Sadar Hills district have reportedly deteriorated.

According to reports, the medical officer in charge of Kangpokpi Community Health Centre, Pushpa Rai, conducted medical check up on the 12 fasting women as their health have deteriorated. Of the 12, the condition of atleast five women is said to be critical.

The doctor has advised the fasting women, especially the five to be provided with medical aide immediately failing which she has warned that further deterioration in their health could be fatal.

A source from Kangpokpi informed that the fasting women folk remained adamant to their decision and refused to consume food. They have further vowed not to compromise demand for the districthood of Sadar Hills with food, further maintained the source.

On the other hand, two individuals who were also on the fast unto death agitation at Sapermeina expressed their similar stand to continue with their fast until their demand is met.

It may be recalled here that as a part of the series of agitation launched by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee demanding a full fledged Sadar Hills district, altogether 11 women folk had launched a fast unto death agitation since August 16 morning. Later more individuals volunteered to join the fast unto death.
