Controversial primary teachers` recruitment being reviewed by a committee: Thaisii

IMPHAL, Aug 25: The DPC Review Committee led by director of education (schools) is working closely to resolve the issue of primary teachers’ recruitment, stated education minister DD Thaisii while replying to the queries raised by opposition MLA Okram Joy during question hour of today’s Assembly sitting.

MLA Okram Joy was raising queries regarding the Gauhati High Court’s directive to resolve the issue of primary teachers within three months.

The matter would be resolved as per the finding of the review committee, contended education minister.

In another question asked by MLA N Mangi regarding the arrear of primary and graduate teachers, education minister DD Thaisii stated that Rs 33,21,68,782 has been sanctioned for payment of arrear to 6257 primary and graduate teachers.

Rs 4,37,96,385 has been sanctioned for payment of arrear for nine months to 533 teachers under ZEO Wangoi, added Thaisii.

Mangi further drew the attention of the education minister on the matter of fund embezzlement by some ZEOs which could harm the education scenario of the state.

Upon a query raised by MLA Ng Bijoy on the present status for appointment of teachers against the vacant posts caused by retirement of approved teachers of aided schools, education minister stated the matter is still under consideration. The state cabinet would soon take a decision to enhance education even in aided schools, Thaisii averred.

Replying to a question asked by MLA Nandakumar on the sewerage project taken up at Lamphel area, PHED minister TN Haokip stated that the project would be completed by March 2012. The PHED will also clear the road side drains if blocked by the excavated earth, added Haokip.
