FIR lodged against abduction of engineer in Ukhrul

UKHRUL, Aug 24: The district administration of  Ukhrul has lodged an FIR at the Police concerned in connection with the abduction of the Executive Engineer, PWD, Ukhrul, who was abducted by armed miscreants on August 21 mid night from his official quarter.

Talking to this correspondent, when asked what steps have been initiated by the District Administration in the matter, in a telephonic conversation, the Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul, R. Sudhan (IAS) responded that necessary action has been initiated by the district administration to rescue the abducted EE besides informing that an FIR has been lodged in Police station concerned.

The DC further replied that the Assam Riffles is also initiating necessary efforts to trace the whereabouts of the abducted Officer.

In the meantime, the Tangkhul Council House Assembly has strongly condemned the act of abduction without any reason informed a press communique’ of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) the apex body of the Tangkhul organization.

It said the Tangkhul Council Assembly appealed the abductors to release the abducted EE, who is serving as the Surveyor of Works (SW) in PWD. Government of Manipur, unharmed.

It is also reported that the Southern Tangkhul Councils and Students’ Union, Tangkhul Aze Longphang and Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long along with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Mapithal Range area comprising of more than 20 villages have also condemned the act of abduction and urged the abductors to release the victim safely.

On the other hand, the Kuki Inpi and the Kuki Students’ Organisation, Ukhrul district strongly condemned the abduction of Wungshim Kasar, EE, PWD on the midnight of August 21 at his Litan Sanikhong quarter by armed miscreants.

A joint statement of the two bodies made available to IFP office, Imphal, said that they have been working day and night to rescue the abducted engineer but to no avail.

It appealed the groups or individuals involved in the abduction to identify themselves besides clarifying the motive behind the abduction and released him safe and sound.

It may be recalled that EE, identified as Kasar (59)of sarkaphung village, from his official residence located at Litan.

According to the victim’s wife disclosed that the EE was abducted by armed miscreants suspected to be Kuki militant on the night of August around 12 pm. The armed miscreants also reportedly threaten the victim’s wife of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to police.

The whereabouts of the abducted EE remained traceless till date.
