Former minister laments corruption filled state

IMPHAL August 16: At the outset of the upcoming general elections, former minister Samuel Jendai is making preparations to get majority votes in his 53 ST assembly constituency of Tamenglong district. As a precursor, the intending candidate held a worship program under the theme “Come, let us build together” at Tamenglong headquarters at his residence yesterday.

The program was attended by TP Mordeccai, executive secretary of RNBA,Rathaipou Riamei, assistant pastor of TBC as speaker and moderator. The function was attended by PR Keihiamang and Chingkhiugong Gonmei as functional chairman and secretary respectively along with representatives of the seven ADC segments including village chiefs.

Speaking to the 6000 above strong mammoth gathering, Samuel exhorted that his stance of contesting the election is to bring about a progressive development in the district including installation of proper office infrastructure as well as providing job opportunities to the unemployed youths and to build an agro based economy through social and religious interaction.

He said that the able youths of the district cannot get employment due to the prevailing practice of doling out bribes and as a result the frustrated youths later turn to drug addiction and become prey to other antisocial elements.

He pointed out that various central and state sponsored schemes are not implemented in totality in the district, the PDS system has also collapsed, and these are due to the gross ignorance of the present leaders and apathy. There has to be a complete overhaul of the system if development is to be brought, he said.

A profile of the ex minister mentions that he proposed the Jiri Tupul rail route, spearheaded sanction of infrastructure development of Rastriya Sam Vikas Yojna, constructed PHCs and appointed 270 persons in different departments, gave housing schemes to above 3000 households,  old age pensions given to 279 pensioners among others.
