Gaikhangam appeals for peace on Quit India observation

IMPHAL, Aug 9: The Manipur Congress Pradesh Committee (MPCC) today observed the Quit India Movement Day at Congress Bhavan, Imphal.

The observation was attended by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi as the chief guest and MPCC president Gaikhangam as the president.

Speaking at the observation, MPCC President Gaikhangam stated that the Indians under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi took the decision to fight against the British rulers to attain the country’s independence on August 9, 1942. More than 60,000 Indians were imprisoned while 10, 000 people laid down their lives in the movement.

He further maintained that the people should acknowledge the contributions of the great Indian leaders who had brought back the lost independence of the country after struggling against the mighty British rulers.

The Congress leaders and workers also paid floral tribute to the great Indian leaders who took part actively in the freedom movement of the country.
