IMPHAL, Aug 11: The coordination committee of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (PRO), RPF, UNLF & UPPK has called general strike from 12 am to 5:30 pm on August 15 to boycott the Indian Independence Day.
A statement of the committee said that Manipur was annexed by India by forcing the then Maharaj Budhachandra to sign the merger agreement at gun-point at Shillong. The Indpendence Day on August 15 is for the Indians and not for the people of Manipur, it stated. The statement further mentioned that the people of Manipur should boycott the Independence Day by staying away from the celebration. The general strike will be relaxed for essential services, religion and press, it added.
