IMPHAL, Aug 4: After the acquisition of various standing properties including the government oil pump at North AOC for the proposed up-gradation of the Hotel Imphal to a 5-Star hotel, the state tourism department is going to acquire the land occupied by the convention centre, with the government accepting a proposal from the department regarding the acquisition of the said land area for the proposed project.
According to an official source, the acquisition of the land allotted to the convention centre is likely to be the final proposal from the state tourism department regarding land acquisition for the said project.
It may be mentioned that soon after its decision to up-grade the existing Hotel Imphal into a 5-Star category hotel and resort, the state government had started acquisition process of private as well as government land much to the dismay of the people residing in the area.
Furthermore, the state had started its acquisition process from the first week of June, wherein the state government has already acquired land measuring 1.50 acres occupied by private parties along the west of the Naga Nullah, amidst strong opposition from the locals on their eviction from their land.
Apart from the private properties, the government has already acquired the land of the government oil depot measuring 0.503 acre already.
