IMPHAL, Aug 11: A meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group of Suspension of Operation has today approved the extension of the agreement by another year, which had been approved earlier by the state cabinet during a recent meeting.
The meeting was held today at the Officers’ Club 1st Manipur Rifles under the chairmanship of the state chief secretary DS Poonia.
According to a highly placed official source, the meeting was attended by Sambhu Singh, jt secy. MHA in charge of the North east representing the central government, official representatives of the Army, para military, CRPF, Assam Rifles and BSF and the state DGP Y Joykumar, addl. DGP/Intl. LM Khoute, special secretary home Binod Kispota representing the state and representatives of the Kuki UG groups, as reported earlier.
The official source further mentioned that, during the JMG meeting the various government representatives of both the central and state government issued stern warnings against the representatives of the Kuki UG groups regarding violation of ground rules by the their respective cadres whereby involving in various anti social activities including extortion and kidnapping of the common public.
In the meantime, while responding to the demands made by the various representatives of the Kuki outfits under the SoO, the officials reciprocated with firm assurances for the completion of the constructions of the two remaining designated camps for the rehabilitation of the cadres at the earliest.
In the meantime, it may be mentioned that, complying to the demands of the Kuki militant groups, the government has already maintained 10 camps in different districts of the state officially, in a positive gesture towards the SoO.
The state representatives had also assured the SoO signatories on the finalization of the issue of Identity Cards to all registered cadres of the Kuki Militant outfits recognized under the SoO, the source added.
