HM and CM effigies torched decrying blast

IMPHAL August 3: The effigies of Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram and Chief Minister O. Ibobi were burned by agitating students and women folks at Thangmeiband College gate today.

The AMSU and several women folks converged by the gate of D.M. College on the stretch of Thangmeiband locality this afternoon at around 3.30 pm and burned the effigies in protest against the Sangakpham bomb blast. The protesters holding placards criticized the central and state government and accused them of irresponsibility in safeguarding the public. The protesters also sharply decried those responsible behind the blast at Sangakpham.

Some of the placards read, “Killing of student is an act of terrorist, Manipur is not a killing field”, “how long India government will support terrorist” and “we want peace”.

Later, the protesters marched along the Thangmeiband road towards Sangakpham. The protest marched was joint by many supporters along the way and shouted against the authorities and those perpetrators masterminding the blast. On reaching Sangakpham at 4.10 pm, the protesters were intervened by a team of police personnel who had been stationed at the location since before.

However, the protesters insisted and further marched ahead towards Sangakpham awang leikai and at Poamei colony to the residence of Thokchom Neha @ Apik, 10 d/oTh. Basant and Th(O) Bimola, and to the rented resident of Philasho Tangkhul, 10, d/o Kachipkhui Tangkhul of  Marou of Phungyar sub-division, Ukhrul. The protesters visited both the residence of the two student victims of the blast and paid tribute to the departed souls by observing a one minute silence.

The agitated protesters, later, gathered at the site of the bomb blast  and  lighted  four candles instead of five as a marked of respect shown to the victims of the blast, subsequently excluding the other  in sharp condemnation of his alleged involvement in the abominable act of terror allegedly purported towards the civilians.
