`Home department sounds alert ahead of Independence day`

IMPHAL, Aug 1: Concern with the recent spate of agitations in the state and expecting boycott call of the approaching Independence Day in the state, the state home department has already sounded an alert instructing all police stations in the state to remain alert and vigilant to avert any kind of disturbance in the state, stated a source.

According to a reliable official source, the Manipur police headquarter had recently sent out messages to all police stations and outposts instructing them to be all the more vigilant considering the various forms of agitation in recent times including the seven days long economic blockade along the National Highways called by the Sadar Hills districthood demand committee which started from today.

The source has also added that the state home department in apprehension about various militant organizations calling a total boycott of the Independence Day celebration has sent out the message for all police stations and outposts in the state to be remain alert.

Further elaborating on the message of the Manipur Police hq, the source has added that the message has also informed all police stations and outposts that agitators and anti-social elements may resort to violent activities such as burning, damaging of government properties etc during their agitations.

The official message has further informed all the OCs concern and police outposts to take necessary security measures in their respective area of jurisdictions, the source added.
