JNIMS appeal to Sadar Hill District Demand Committee

IMPHAL, August 5: As a consequence of the economic blockade and the ongoing general strike of the Sadar Hill District Demand Committee, the J.N. Hospital, Porompat, is facing acute shortage of oxygen and other medicinal gases resulting to cancellation of routine operations, stated a release of the JNIMS signed by its medical superintendent.

According to the statement, now the Den Agency, Uripok which is supplying oxygen to all major hospitals including private hospitals in Manipur, has informed the JNIMS medical superintendent that the trucks bringing Oxygen cylinders can not come to Imphal and are stationed at Senapati due to the general strike by the Sadar Hill District Demand Committee.

Similarly, the trucks carrying empty oxygen cylinders from Imphal can not pass through the National Highway no.39 due to the general strike. If the situation does not improve within 2-3 days, there will be complete stock out situation of oxygen in Manipur leading to closure of Operation Theatres, Intensive Care Units(ICU), Intensive Coronary Care Units (ICCU) etc. leading to   many preventable deaths, added the release.

The J.N. Hospital, Imphal, has further appealed to the president, other office bearers and volunteers of the Sadar Hill District Demand Committee to allow the trucks carrying empty oxygen cylinders from Imphal to Guwahati and full cylinders from Guwahati to Imphal to pass through the National Highway No.-39 without any disturbance and to ensure full security and protection of the trucks carrying oxygen cylinders on humanitarian ground and in greater interest of patient care, the release added.

  1. Strikes and Bandhs  by organisations and groups should be penalize.   They should be outlawed; people have Manipur have being hijacked by their own for too long.  Survival and Movement of people  should not be curtailed and no one has the right to do so.
