Lamlong locals stand up against terrorist acts

IMPHAL, August 7: Unhappy with the various acts of terror in the state in recent times including the recent Sangakpham bomb blast which killed four civilians and injured scores others, locals of Lamlong area of Imphal east today conveyed a sit in protest at Lamlong keithel.

The sit in protest was jointly organized by Imphal East United Club Organization, Social United Club Organization, Lamlong Keithel Phambi Apunba Nupi Lup and Nongpok Leimarol Maira paibi Apunba Lup under the banner saying Sangakpham Bomb blast is an act of terrorism and bomb should not be executed at crowded places.

While condemning the recent spate of bomb blast at various places of the state, reportedly executed by the NSCN (IM) which have subsequently killed numerous civilians and injured scores others and calling it as an act of terrorism, Bimola, secretary, Lamlong Keithel, has further appealed to the central government which is at present in a ceasefire agreement with the militant outfit, to look into the violent incidents, and punish the culprits.

While maintaining that there is no insurance that the militant outfit will cease to execute their terrorist activities in the state in the future, she has further appealed to the central government to put a check into the various activities of the militant outfit NSCN (IM) at the earliest.

The demonstration was attended by locals who drove out in droves braving the rain.

Meanwhile, in an act of support to the protest demonstration shops around the area remained closed for the day.

Furthermore, locals also expressed their condemnation to the recent spat of bomb blast in the state including the Sangakpham bomb blast and the ADC office blast at Khuman Lampak. 

Another local, on conditions of anonymity, declared the violent incidents as happening due to lack of intelligence inputs on the parts of the security forces.

Taking the opportunity of meeting with the media persons, another protestor added that the present indefinite general strike called at Sadar Hills area in connection with the Sadar Hills district demand has created an artificial price rise in the state which has further affected the daily wage earners in a severe way.

She further added, even though the demands of a separate Sadar Hills district is not connected to today’s protest in anyway, she was only taking the opportunity of talking to media persons to expressed the difficulties that she had to meet because of the blockade along the national highways passing through the state.
