Local bodies allege indecent exposure by youth

IMPHAL, August 11: Local clubs, meira paibi bodies of the Kyamgei Mamang Leikai and the Kyamgei unit of Universal Mothers’ Organization have jointly called a press conference today condemning and decrying the police case file by one Kshetrimayum Raju Singh against three individuals of the area alleging that the trio had assaulted him at gun point.

Speaking at the conference, Khagee club Kyamgei Mamang leikai president M Shamungou has counter charged that Kshetrimayum Raju, 25, s/o (late) Kh Megha Singh of Ningom thong Kyamgei was nabbed by members of the local club of Kyamgei Mamang leikai from Khagee Bazar Mayai Leikai on August 3, after receiving numerous allegations of indecent exposure and molestation of numerous women and school going girls of the area.

He further stated that the local club informed the family of Raju, who came to the club along with state police commandos.

After repeated appeals from his family members that Raju was supposed to be married in November, the matter was subdued and the local club allowed the family members to take Raju along with them.

“However, Raju and his family clarified through local dailies and electronic media dated August 10, stating that Raju was accosted by three members of the Khagee club Kyamgei Mamang leikai at gun point and assaulted at Khagee Bazar.”

He has further stated the clarification provided by Raju and his family as baseless and wrong.

Meanwhile, he has also added that members of the local club and meira paibis had gone to the Irilbung police station to lodged a case against Raju however the police refused to lodge the complain, even thought he police have already lodge a case against three members of the club on Raju’s allegation.

The three members of the club who have been charged with assaulting Raju at gun point have been identified as Nameirakpam Momo, 23, s/o N Sagor, Nameirakpam Abung, s/o N Tumber Singh and Wahengbam Bemjit, s/o W Lukhoi.

Further speaking at the press conference, UMO president M Sorijini has appealed to authorities concerned to investigate into the issue and bring out the truth without any further delay and not to politicize the issue.

Meanwhile various student bodies of the state including AMSU, DESAM, MSF and KSA has also assured all possible help to bring justice to the victims and is ready to join any steps taken up by the local meira paibis and local clubs on the issue.

The student bodies have also appealed to police and authorities concerned to take up necessary investigation on the issue and have also added that incase any irregularity on the part of the authorities is found on the issue, the student bodies are ready to join any agitation against the authority

The press conference was also attended by victims of the alleged chain molestation and indecent exposure.
