Minister Erabot blames home dept on Sangakpham blast; JAC formed

IMPHAL, Aug 2: Terming the functionaries of the state home department as complete failure, commerce and industries minster Y Erabot has asserted that the law and order situation of the state could not be improved despite of heavy deployment of village defence force and other security personnel in every nook and corner of the state.

Erabot was speaking at a public meeting during the sit-in-protest demonstration held at Sangakpham Bazar today.

The sit-in-protest was attended by the students of EK Higher Secondary School, Sangakpham, Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong, St Anthony School, Poumai Colony, Kiddis Corner School, Chingmeirong, Rejina School, Priyadarshini School etc. and people belonging to different communities and social organizations.

The minister further stated that the bomb blast could have averted if the officials of the home department were alert. The Sangakpham blast has clearly shown the failure of the state home department. The security measures taken up in the whole state seems to be futile, he asserted.

Erabot further appealed to the people to univocally stand against such acts of terrorists in the state.

Further, a joint action committee was formed with Dr M Thawanthaba of NEROCA as the convenor and M Sunil of LKYDA as the co-covenor. 16 other members of the JAC were also appointed.

Several resolutions were also taken during the public meeting.

The meeting resolved to urge the authorities concerned to shift the ADC members particularly those belonging to Naga community from the ADC Guest House at Sangakpham on security point of view and until the threat from some hill based UG outfit is withdrawn; check the identities of the tenants residing in areas of Sangaokpham Bazar, Poumai Colony, Chingmeirong Kabui Khul, Chingmeirong East and West, Lei-Ingkhol, Laipham Khunou; shift the oil depot of IOC from Sangakpham on security point of view; construction of traffic island at Sangakpham Bazar for the safety of the general public; increase the ex-gratia amount to Rs. five lakh for the next of kin of deceased persons and Rs. two lakh for the injured persons and take action against those involved in causing the bomb blast.
