IMPHAL, August 8: A commando personnel of the Imphal West district police sustained multiple bullet injuries last night when he was accidentally shot by fellow commandos due to mistaken identities at Nambol.
According to sources, the incident took place at Lourembam area under Nambol Police station around 10:15 pm.
A team of Bishnupur commandos who were laying in wait at Lourembam area based on specific information about the presence of militant cadres, was taken by surprised when another team of Imphal West district police commandos arrived, said the sources.
It further asserted that the Imphal West team that was coming in a gypsy in civvies was fired upon by the Bishnupur team injuring a commando personnel of the Imphal west.
The victim has been identified as one Oinam Rajkumar, 43 of Iroisem at present staying at Lamphel quarter (posted at Wangoi). He sustained three bullet injuries at his left side ribs.
