IMPHAL, August 10: The Anjuman Islah-E Muaashrah has today claimed as baseless and unfounded the rape charges against three of its members made by a woman whose husband had been identified as one Salim of Lilong Turel Ahanbi which was made through dailies published in the state.
The organization today called a press conference at its Lilong office declaring that the association had brought the woman to its office complex for further interrogation after she was found peeling off Spasmo Proxyvon and Nitrosun-10 tablets at her maternal residence.
Speaking at the conference, Maulana Muheijudin, secretary general AIM, stated that members of the organization were in search of Salim, the husband of the woman after getting information that he was trying sell some illegal drugs.
He further elaborated that unable to find Salim who had also been previously nabbed by the locals and the police on separate occasions along with drugs, the members went to the maternal residence of his wife, where they found Salim’s wife with 2742 SP capsules and 18 boxes of SP tablets. The members also found 45 strips of N-10 tablets and five pieces of N-10 from her possession.
After which, with permission from her father, the members took the woman for further verification at their office.
He further maintained that considering all customary practices which disallow any man other than the husband to touch the body of a woman, the members had taken the woman in her burqa to their office.
After reaching the office, he further claimed that she was interrogated under the purdah system, however finding her guilty of assisting her husband in the illegal business of peddling drugs, the members decided to beat her using a stick according to Islamic law.
He had also added that the organization had warned Salim to distance himself from the illegal business of selling drugs and that Salim’s parent had also assured the organization that they will try to distance Salim from the illegal business.
However in direct contrast to the assurance from his parents, the association received information that Salim was ready with a new consignment, which has resulted in the present crisis, he maintained.
He has further stated that the charges against the members of the organization as leveled by the woman are baseless and unfounded. He also maintained that it could be her sole intention to defame the organization which has been fighting against peddling and use of illegal drugs in the society.
He has further stated that a public meeting was also organized at the Baniyameen Masjid, Turel Ahanbi regarding the charges made by Salim’s wife.
The meeting further resolve to oust Salim and his wife from the area incase of failure of the couple to surrender before the association at the earliest and to further oust the couple from their religion in case of their failure to turn in themselves to the association at the earliest.
