IMPHAL, August 4: A press statement of the Naga People’s Organization has stated that while respecting the genuine aspiration of the other tribal community, the NPO has seriously viewed the ‘suspicious’ nature of the state government in dealing the present volatile situation in Senapati district.
It has further added that considering the present economic blockade and indefinite general strike launched by Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC), the communal approach and attitude of the SPF led state government has deeply disturbed the sentiments of the people in Senapati district. “Any illogical decision of the Government to infuse tension among the co-existing tribal communities will not be tolerated”, stated the release.
The NPO has also expressed deep condolence and share the sorrow of those bereaved families of the three persons killed and those injured on August 2 accident at Kanglatongbi. Such loss of human lives should be avoided during any democratic agitation of achieving ‘a meaningful solution’, the release added.
With inflow of inter-state buses, trucks, private vehicles mounting day by day at Senapati H/Q local ground due to the general strike, it has created a humanitarian crisis, for which the NPO appeals for relaxation of the on-going indefinite general strike imposed by SHDDC on humanitarian ground.
Closely monitoring the move of CM O.Ibobi Singh, the NPO is compelled to express extreme unhappiness against unleashing communal and provoking statement designed to create antagonism among the Nagas and other tribal communities in Manipur, it added.
The present state government will not be allowed to sacrifice the peaceful environment of different tribal communities for their vested political mileage. “Warning against benefiting any political advantage or partial conclusion by the State Government from the issue, the NPO will not remain a silent spectator but react effectively and responsibly in general’s interest of the District”, the release added.
