NPO reaffirms `collective fight` against `encroachment` decision

IMPHAL, August 12: The Naga People’s Organization (NPO) in a statement said that it had convened an emergency general body meeting at the Indoor Stadium, Senapati district head quarter, and seriously considered the intensity and indifferent attitude of the SPF led O.Ibobi Singh State Government in handling the prevailing situation in Sadar Hills.

The meeting was attended by villagers of over 80 revenue Naga villages of Senapati district, the NPO, tribe Hohos presidents, SDWA, SDSA, village chiefs, public leaders, different organizations and village chairman/secretary.

According to the statement, the meeting endorsed the joint NPO’s presidential council and executive council’s decision to safeguard every inch of the Nagas ancestral domain and boundaries.

It further asserted that, while strongly re-affirming the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between representatives of Naga organizations UNC, NSF and ANSAM and Manipur Government in 1981, 1992, 1996, 1998 in spirit and letter, the meeting unanimously resolved to endorse it unconditionally.

The statement further recalled that the MoU signed on June 23, 1998 agreed to form a cabinet sub-committee on the Sadar Hill issue and that positive consultation will be made before any decision on the issue.

The statement asked the state government to cease partial moves in dealing with the volatile situation, and has further condemned any hidden agendas and communal designs.

The meet also resolved to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister to remind the state government about the MoUs and demand to safeguard all agreements without any prejudice treatment of the issue.

At the same time, after minutely discussing the issue, the meeting further decided to fight collectively against any encroachment or redrawing any artificial demarcation of historical Naga areas in Senapati district, it further stated.
