IMPHAL Aug 28: Propagating a pollution free environment and a healthy lifestyle, cycle enthusiasts got together for the 5th ‘Critical Mass’ at the office of the Manipur Cycle Club (MCC) located at Paona Bazar today afternoon.
Before the cycling event began, police patrolling the street constantly enquired to the participants and asked if they had necessary ‘permit papers’. After explaining in detail about the voluntary initiative of the cyclists and post arrival of Imphal City Police OC Rk Tejbir, the rally began at around 3.30 pm from Paona Bazar , Moreh market. “This is a good activity, especially when fuel is scarce. Cycling needs to be endorsed for less traffic woes and a greener Imphal city, I totally support it”, Tejbir told IFP.
Distributing pamphlets along the Tiddim road route advocating the need to establish cycle lanes, the cyclists drove towards Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi, Tera Bazar and proceeded towards Naoremthong bridge. Passing through Uripok Polem Leikai, the cyclists converged at Boss Juices, a juice bar specializing in fruit smoothies, the end point of the 5th critical mass located at Sagolband Bijoygovinda.
Today’s event was also participated by N Shanta Singh, proprietor of Boss Juices, brand ambassador of Nahakpam Food and Beverages, Laishram Soma and other staff members. The cyclists were treated by Boss Juices with smoothies made from locally available fruits and imported Kiwi fruit pulp.
Shanta told IFP that the endeavor of the MCC should be supported and the cycling trend needs to be revived. “It is a healthy and hazardless mode of transport, I am all for it”, he added.
