Protest held against terrorism and price hike

Locals of Singjamei Chingamathak including students demonstrations at their respective localities against the acts of terrorism in the state including the recent Sangakpham bomb blast.
IMPHAL, Aug 7: Decrying the acts of terrorism in the state, the women of Chingamakha under the aegis of Women Action for Development held a sit-in-protest and Conflict Widows’ Forum at Singjamei Chingamakhong Market Shed, Imphal.

Addressing media persons, member of Conflict Widows’ Forum, Haobam Nita stated that the present blockade has affected the common people of the state. The traders have hiked the prices of essential commodities in the wake of economic blockade. The state government should take up steps to ensure the availability of essential commodities in the state, she enjoined.

Laishram Ranjita maintained that the poor people have no right to live in the state. The security personnel are more interested in earning side income rather than checking suspected persons. The Sangakpham blast could gave been averted if stringent security measures were taken up, she noted.

Secretary of Women Action for Development, Sobita Mangsatabam stated that there is no improvement in law and order situation in the state despite of heavy deployment of security personnel. The state home department should deploy the security personnel at strategic areas to check and prevent any unwanted incident, she noted.

Meanwhile, a gathering was also held near Chingmathak on August 7 organised by Chingamathak College road development association club along with 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector HQ IGAR (S) to discuss the security as well as steps to be taken to prevent any future bomb blast after the recent blast of July 31 midnight in the area.

A release of the PROG IGAR (S) said the gathering was presided by the club president Khaidem Hitler Singh, Kakchingtabam Ongbi Meitei Devi and post commander Chingamathak post. 

During the discussion locals condemned the people responsible for carring out such activities in the locality where there was peace and good relation between Security forces and locals. Around 40 local residents were present for the interaction and the meeting ended up in high note of bringing peace in the area by mutual cooperation.
