IMPHAL, August 10: All routine operations have been suspended in the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences hospital, Imphal due to non-availability of oxygen. However emergency operations like delivery, for life threatening injuries are done as usual, informed a statement of the RIMS media advisor.
It said the shortage of oxygen is not in the Operation Theatre alone. There is a very low stock for those in the wards also. The hospital management is in constant touch with the supplier to replenish the oxygen cylinders. However chances of resuming the routine operations are slim as long as there is economic blockade/general strike during which even trucks carrying medicines and medical supplies are not allowed to ply, it added.
