RTI appellants form working committee to ward off threats

IMPHAL August 6: In stark contrast to the democratic norms and guidelines, several lives are at stake for the simple reason of being an RTI applicant. Several attempts of threats and even to the extent of causing physical harm are reportedly perpetrated on a regular basis towards individuals seeking information under the Right to Information act. These has been disclosed by individuals, who were present during the first State level convention on Peoples’ Right to Information  held at Manipur press club today.

During the convention, under a consensus agreement among the participants of the convention the movement for people’s right to information Manipur or (M- PRIM) was officially named as a new organization that is committed to render support and assist help to those seeking information under the RTI act. In this regard, a working committee was also formed with representation from each district of the state.

Dr. Devabrata Roy, M. Rakesh, director Human Rights Law Network and other dignitaries were on the dais during the convention.
