IMPHAL, Aug 31: At least seven women blockade supporters of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee were injured during an altercation with some personnel of Assam Rifles at Gamgiphai near Motbung today.

Speaking to media persons about the incident, one SHDDC volunteer stated two personnel of 43 Assam Rifles in civvies tried to pass through the blockade in a motorcycle at around 8 am today. However, the women protesters denied the passage of the two AR personnel saying that they could not be allowed to pass through the area as they were not on duty.

After some heated conversations, the duo left the place saying some vulgar words to the women protesters. The women tried to punish the personnel for using vulgar words but they were let to go after few minutes, the volunteer stated.

After about half an hour, personnel of 43 Assam Rifles Motbung Post came in one jeep and two trucks. Without any warning the personnel began to assault the women and even tried to molest some women, the volunteer stated.

The personnel were later overpowered by the women and captured their weapons. The post commanders of 43 AR Motbung and Kangpokpi were also held captive for some time by the protesters until the matter was resolved with the CO of 43 Assam Rifles.

The CO also assured the women of strict action against the personnel as per the military rules.

As per the customary law, the accused personnel were also made to offer a pig for their wrongdoing.

The leaders of SHDDC and other social leaders including Kim Gangte were involved in resolving the incident.
