Sharmila confident of success in her anti-AFSPA crusade

IMPHAL, Aug 30: “I will ultimately become triumphant in my struggle as I believe God will certainly find ways to fulfill my demands”, Irom Chanu Sharmila told media persons todayafter she was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East.

She was given judicial remand for 15 days by the CJM Ronald Keishing.

Sharmila further stated that she had written to Anna Hazare requesting him for support in her struggle for the repeal of AFSPA from the state.

She said that she believes Anna Hazare would surely visit Imphal to lend support to her struggle and also expressed her desire for immediate UN intervention to review human right violations in the region under the shadow of AFSPA.

Discontented with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi for his inability to meet her personally despite of requests in several open letters, Sharmila said that she feels sorry that the leader of the state should have neglected her even though he found time to visit other people several times in the same hospital where she is admitted presently.

In the meantime, elder brother of Irom Chanu Sharmila, I Shinghajit the told media at CJM, Imphal East complex that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has also expressed his willingness to lend support to the decade-long struggle of Sharmila for the cause of safeguarding human rights.
