Six UGs including two women activists arrested by security forces

IMPHAL, Aug 9: At least six persons including two female activists belonging to separate under ground outfits have been apprehended by security forces since yesterday during counter insurgency operations conducted at different places of the state.

According to an official statement issued by the Sr.SP, Imphal west L Kailun, IPS, a combined team of Imphal west district police commandos and personnel of 10 AR apprehended two active cadres of the underground UPPK identified as Ningombam Boinao alias Raju Singh, 20, s/o N Biren Singh of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai and Nigombam Bocha alias Boboi Singh, 26, s/o of N Sobha Singh of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai from Ningomthong Lilando Lampak yesterday morning around 11.30 am during frisking and checking operation in the area.

It has further mentioned that, during further verification, the arrested cadres disclosed that, they joined the outfit in the year 2001 and are presently working under the command of one Ningombam Sanjoy of UPPK and they have been involved in extortion of money from the general public.

It has further mentioned that, a combined team of police commandos of both Imphal East and West and personnel of 116 Bn BSF have apprehended two active women cadres of the proscribed PLA identified as Khumujam Premila alias Priya Devi, 32, d/o Kh. Bijoy Singh of Wangkhei Koijam Leikai and Laikhuram Ningol Thounaojam ongbi Lakhiman alias Ashakiran Devi, 36, w/o of Th Ranjan Singh of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai yesterday evening around 4.30 pm from MG Avenue near Ok hotel.

The release further mentioned that, during spot verification the arrested women PLA cadres reportedly informed the team that, they are working in the finance section of the outfit under the instruction of one Piba alias Kiran, Imphal East section of the PLA and that they had extorted  money from various government high schools in Imphal East areas and also disclosed that they had collected a sum of Rs. 15,000 from government schools on August 8 and delivered to their commander the same day at Chingarel, Lamlai area, the statement added.

Meanwhile a PRO release has stated that at least two cadres of the proscribed PREPAK (Progressive) have been allegedly arrested by troops of 15 Assam Rifles of 9 sectors while conducting an operation in the general area of Khangbok Awang, yesterday morning around 11:55, informed a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S).

The arrested individuals have been identified as Thiyam Bijoy Singh, 40, s/o T Ibotombi Singh of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai and Moirangthem Jugon Singh, 30, s/o (L) M Rabei Singh of Khangbok Makha Leikai. They were handed over to Thoubal police station, further added the statement.
