State gets 75 seats in new working women hostel in Delhi

NEW DELHI, August 5 (MIC): It is good news for working women from the North East states in Delhi and National Capital Region. There is a home away from home.
In a joint initiative of ministry of Women and Child Development and ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, the government of India is providing a safe, affordable and comfortable hostel accommodation exclusively for working women from North Eastern states at Jasola Vihar here.

Five storied 500 bedded working women hostel with two lifts erected opposite to Apollo Hospital will be inaugurated on August 20 and its operation will be started immediately.

Its location is very close to Jasola Metro station and it has 167 three bedded rooms with attached toilet and bath. It has well furnished living room with bed, chair, table, cupboard; dining with kitchen; round the clock security services; and power and water back up.

Creche facility for working women with children, high standard housekeeping, mess provision and adequate parking facility for vehicles are available.

Working women with gross income not exceeding Rs. 30, 000/- per month, who may be single, widowed, divorced, separated, married but whose husband or immediate family does not reside in Delhi and National Capital Region are eligible to seek accommodation in the hostel.

Preference will be given to working women who are from disadvantaged sections of the society or physically challenged. Girls upto the age of 18 years and boys upto the age of 5 years accompanying working mothers will also be allowed to stay in the hostel.

Women from the North Eastern Region who are under training for job, provided the total training period does not exceed one year may also be accommodated if there is vacancy available after accommodating working women.

Manipur has been allotted 75 seats in the Jasola Working Women Hostel.

Sources from the ministry of Women and Child Development said that the ministry would like to reach full strength of the hostel as soon as possible. If any state government of NE states was not able to utilize the seats allocated to it, the same would be passed on to other NE states which has higher demands and are able to utilize more seats. Meanwhile, Manipuri Diaspora Association, Delhi an organization of Manipuris settled in and around Delhi expresses its deep and sincere gratitude and regard to Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India for his noble gesture for constructing  a dedicated “Girls’ Hostel of North East” in Delhi stated a statement of the organization.
