State govt directed to prepare for second round of UNC talk

IMPHAL, Aug 14: The ministry of home affairs’ government of India has recently advised the state government to prepare for the second round of talks with the United Naga Council in the later part of the current month.

According to a source, an official intimation from the union home ministry has advised the state government to talk over with the Naga body regarding the date and venue for the second round of meeting between the three parties.

It may be mentioned that, the initial talk between the representatives of the central and state government along with the UNC was held on June 30 at the office of the deputy commissioner, Senapati district.

The Senapati talk was attended by UK Bansal secretary (Internal Security) of MHA, Sambhu Singh, Jnt. Secy. (NE), MHA representing the centre and a state team led by DS Poonia, chief secretary besides a nine member team of the UNC led by its spokesperson Sword Vashum.

It may also reminded that, representatives of both the state and the central governments had requested the UNC delegates during the first round of talk to clearly spell out their “alternate arrangement” demand and had added that the democratic system of the Autonomous District Council under Article 371 (C) of the Constitution to take care of the special needs of the hill districts of the state.

During the talk, the state planning department had also provided hard copies of the power point presentations on the investments in the hill districts and on the devolution of power to the ADCs to the delegates of the Naga body. 

Further more, the talk had ended without any solution as UNC leader Sword Vashum had conveyed that the Autonomous District Council is not acceptable to them, even as the state chief secretary had read out the response of the state government on the issue.
