State govt to hold talks with SHDDC and UNC to resolve Sadar Hills issue

IMPHAL, August 23: In a significant development to bring a resolution to the current stalemate arising out of the demand for separate Sadar Hills district, the state cabinet has today resolved to hold dialogues with both the agitating parties simultaneously to explore possibilities that would help bring amicable solutions.

This was stated by SPF spokesperson, N Biren while briefing media persons at his official quarter after the cabinet meet this evening.

However the spokesperson failed to mention any specific date as to when the dialogue will begin.

The cabinet meeting was convened under the chair of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi from 3:30 pm and lasted till about 7 pm in the evening.

N. Biren further stated that the cabinet has seriously discussed the prevailing scarcity of essential commodities in the state after reviewing the stock position of the commodities in the state.

He asserted that in order to improve the law and order situation in the state the cabinet also approved to set up a committee namely ‘Committee on re-organisation of administrative police district boundary’. He further informed that the committee will be led by chief secretary of Manipur with assisted by sub-ordinate member of the committee which included DGP, principal secretary, commissioner RD and PR, home/hill, finance etc.   

The committee is intended to submit its fact finding reports within three months from the date of its functioning, further adds Biren.

The spokesperson coming to other agenda discussed during the meet, informed that the cabinet has approved to establish a self finance institute of charter financial analysis of Indian university in the state besides approving to allot an area of 20/30 acres of land for the same.  

Opening a PDA employees ACP account, extending superannuation period of the Registrar of the Guwahati high court were further approved during the meet.

  1. SHDDC is only asking the implementation of the Act passed in 1971.I dont understand why is the issue given an ethnic colour now.I dont think SHDDC has anything to discuss with any Naga group.Please note if fresh boundary demarcation is to be done all kuki villages in Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts has to firstĀ go Sadar hills,all meitei villages in Chandel should go to valley districts.
