`State seriously considering demands for separate districts`

IMPHAL, August 16: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has re-affirmed the state government’s stand on the issue of the Sadar Hills Districthood that at no point of time the state government will hastily give out the demands of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee, even though the state government is aware of the sentiments of people residing in the region.

The Chief Minister while attending as the chief guest of the 20th observation of Thangjing Ching air crash of August 16, 1991 which was held at the residence of I Hemochandra Singh, speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly at Singjamei Chingamakha this morning, further mentioned that the rising issue over the existing demands from various sections of the state population for separate districts by bifurcating the districts of Imphal east to form Jiribam, Chandel to form Tengnoupal etc., has been noted seriously by the state government.

The CM further elaborated that, every arising issue and crisis of the state could be chalk out on the negotiation table. Acts of violence and harassing of common people in order to achieve a certain demand is not the right path and therefore the agitating bodies like the SHDDC should come forward for holding necessary talks with the state government in the interest of the entire state general public.

He further appraised the selfless contributions made by the then member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly., late I Tompok Singh towards the welfare of the state while he was serving as a politician.

The observation of the 20th Thanging Ching Air crash was organized by the Thanging Ching Air Crash Memorial Committee and was marked with laying of floral tributes to the portraits of late I Tompok Singh and other victims.

The observation also marked the day with a two minutes silence at around 11: 45 am this morning.

The formal observation today was presided by MPCC president Gaikhangam and the senior cabinet minister Phungzathang Tonsing as guest of honour. Further various social workers, MLAs and well-wishers also attended the observation today and praised the dedications and the contribution made by the late Tompok in the sphere of politics and social services in the state during his life.
