IMPHAL, Aug 23: The stock of food grains and fuel in the state is getting depleted fast due to the ongoing economic blockades imposed by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee and United Naga Council on the national highways.
As per the stock position of food grains and fuel released by Consumers’ Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) today, the state is left with only 428 kilolitres of MS (petrol) which is expected to last for six days with daily consumption rate of 70 kilolitres per day.
The present stock of HSD (diesel) is 2252 kilolitres which is expected to last for 11 days at daily consumption rate of 204 kilolitres per day while LPG is expected to last only for three days with 195 metric tones remaining in stock.
The stock of SKO (kerosene) is at 2564 kilolitres which will last for 32 days at daily consumption rate of 79 kilolitres per day and ATF (aero turbine fuel) is at 217 kilolitres which is expected to last for 13 days.
The stock of rice at FCI and FCS godowns at Sangaiprou is 43.976 metric ton and 10929.077 metric ton respectively. It is expected to last only for seven days at daily consumption rate of 1510 metric ton per day.
The stock of wheat at FCI and FCS godowns is 2398.201 metric ton and 95.009 metric ton respectively while sugar at FCI and FCS godowns is 415.557 metric ton and 516.581 metric ton respectively.
FCI godown in Ukhrul is left with 1985 metric of rice and 127 metric ton of sugar while Jiribam FCI godown is left with 1503 metric ton of rice and 114 metric ton of sugar.
Meanwhile, CAF&PD minister, N Biren stated that more than 500 loaded trucks including 100 petroleum tankers will soon reach Imphal through NH-37 (formerly NH-53) under heavy security measures.
He further stated that petroleum products for the state could now be fetched from Ramnagar which is about 45 kilometres from Silchar. Such arrangement will benefit the transporters to a great extent, he added.
Biren also appealed to the people to bear the inconveniences for some more time till normalcy returns to the state.
