Talks on Jiribam dist fail, blockade likely on NH-37

IMPHAL, August 30: Yet another economic blockade is likely to come into effect along the National Highway-37, Imphal-Jiribam road, with the talk between the Jiribam district demand committee held today failed to reach to an agreement.

11 members of the committee today met the Chief Minister of Manipur at around 10 am led by the chairman of the committee, Th. Jenny Devi.

Speaking to media persons after the talk, the convener of the committee, M. Maipaksana, informed that the government has resolved to form a re-organization who will submit a report within three month time and necessary action will be initiated as per the outcome of the report.

The convener further stated that the committee however asked the government to complete the report within 15 days, citing the plight of the Jiribam populace. Later the talk was abandoned as it could not come to any understanding.

He further informed that the committee will convene a meeting to discuss about the development of today’s talk and asserted that the meet would also serve as a deciding factor to re-imposed the economic blockade along the NH-37 which was called off on August 14 following a request of the government.

  1. I do not understand why at this time; why not pick up another time. It is not the need of the hour. There are many a things that need to be cleaned up first. Encroachment of land and influx of illegal migrants and threat to the local and indigenous populace by the outsiders are the things that need to be taken up first and then work on the peace, tranquility and co-existence of the indigenous people ( meitei, kuki, naga, pangal etc.). Then you can go for your demand for the full fledge district.
