IMPHAL August 4: As an immediate response to the truckers and drivers who had been injured during the economic blockade and general strike call regarding the demand for a separate Sadar Hills district, the Transporters and drivers council, Imphal and M/s Zimomi traders, sub-contractor Jiri FCI to Imphal FCI, each will give Rs. 50, 000 in cash to owner of one of the Truck bearing registration no. MN03T 0155, L.Nobin Singh, s/o Yaima Singh of Pangei. This was announced during a press conference held in Imphal.
The Truck was set ablaze by alleged blockade supporters at NH 53.
The TDC has also announce during the conference held at it office in MG avenue to give another Rs. 10,000 to one Md. Rahman, a driver who sustained serious head injuries and is presently being treated at Shija Hospital and research centre located at Lamphel after being referred from RIMS. Rahman is the driver of another truck bearing registration no. AS25 5682.
H. Ranjit Singh , President of the council said that the monetary help is being provided as an immediate necessity for medical expense.
He further said that all the four trucks that had met with unfortunate incidents were brought back to Imphal late last night with help of police escort. The council also brought back all the injured persons to Imphal and help administered necessary first aids at RIMS, he added. Later, the injured persons were discharged except Rahman who had sustained head injury.
The president addressing the media persons during the conference condemned such violent acts perpetrated towards drivers and truckers plying on the highways and said that the incident was very unfortunate.
He clarified that they support the demands of the Sadar hills district demand committee on the other side they have to comply with government orders. He further appealed to all concerned to avoid indulging in violent aggression towards innocent drivers and truckers plying on both the highways in the future.
In the mean time, Th. Ibohal, vice president of the council appealed to the government concerned to thoroughly initiate to check whether the alleged scarcity of fuel in the state is true or false.
Later in another conference held at Keishampat office of the M/s Zimomi Traders, president Kh. Inoaba, disclosed that in addition to Rs. 50, 000, further assistance will be given to L.Nobin singh, s/o Yaima Singh of Pangei.
