Two girls to receive Jeevan Raksha Padak during I-Day celebration

IMPHAL, August 14: Like in other parts of the country, the state will also celebrate the 64th Independence Day however amidst heavy security measures in the wake of the boycott call by major militant organizations operating in the state.

The state level function of the Independence Day will be held at the 1st Manipur Rifles battalion ground graced by the Governor of Manipur as the chief guest and presided over by Chief Minister of Manipur.

At least 60 contingents comprising both of state and paramilitary forces including BSF, CRPF, MPTC Pangei, civil police, home guard, Manipur fire service, Manipur excise, civil defense service, NCC cadets will be taking part in the parade tomorrow. Students of various government educational institutions will also took part in the parade.

The Parade of the contingents will be commanded by, additional SP, Imphal East district, Kamei Angam Romanaus.

Inspector, M. Sudhir Kumar, officer in charge of the Bishnupur district police commando, who was conferred with the first bar police medal for gallantry for 2009-10, will receive his award tomorrow. Besides him altogether 46 personnel of the state forces will receive their police medal for gallantry awards while another two personnel of the state forces will be awarded with the police medal for meritorious services. The two have been identified as inspector of Manipur Police (OC in charge Lilong police station), Md. Chaoba and Wahengbam Bormani Singh, Subedar of 2nd battalion Manipur Rifles.

According to sources, two civilians will be awarded with Jeevan Raksha Padak Award, 2011. They have been identified as one Maibam Pretty Devi of Mayang Imphal Maibam Maning Leikai, she will be awarded with Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak and Kumari Thoithoi who will be awarded the Jeevan Raksha Padan.

The sources further informed that at least 26 state security personnel will be conferred with gallantry award for their distinguish duty for this year. Gingouthang  Havildar 1st Bar to Police Medal for Gallantry; M. Ingocha Singh Havildar 1st Bar to Police Medal for Gallantry; Md. Hasan Ali Rifleman 1st Bar to Police Medal for Gallantry; D. Robinson Jemadar Police Medal for Gallantry; L. Meanwhile, the government has decided to deduct 30 days from the life sentences awarded to eight inmates of the Central Jail Sajiwa during the 64th Independence Day celebration tomorrow.
