Two more hunger strikers hospitalized

IMPHAL, Aug 25: With two more hunger strikers of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee being hospitalized at Kangpokpi today morning, the number of hospitalized strikers has risen to nine.

According to sources, the two women strikers staging fast unto death at Kangpokpi were rushed to the hospital at around 9 am after CHC, Kangpokpi medical team led by Dr Touthang found their health condition critical.

The two women have been identified as Neikim Kipgen(59) of Keithelmanbi and Lhingneikim Kipgen(50) of Kangpokpi. The sources further informed that Neikim Kipgen started the strike from 16 August, Lhingneikim Kipgen joined on 20 of this month.

Dr Touthang stated that they were suffering of acute gastritis, hypertension and viral fever due to starvation. He also said that they were exhausted as they are only taking water and ORS by force.

The doctors also warned that, if they go on fasting, they are liable to develop other complication too.

They were given intravenous fluid therapy.

According to Dr Pushpa Rai, MO Incharge of the CHC, Kangpokpi, all together 9 hunger strikers have been admitted so far. They still refuse to take nasal feeding. In this regard we have already informed the Addl.Deputy Commissioner for further necessary action said Dr.Pushpa Rai.

While 2 more persons joining the strike yesterday at Saparmeina, the number of hunger strikers has increased to 21.
