IMPHAL, Sept 25: District council teachers have threatened to launch an indefinite cease work strike in all administrative offices, schools, institutions in the entire Autonomous district council in the state from October 3 until their pending salaries and arrears are released.

A statement of the All Manipur District Council Teacher Association has informed that a meeting has been convened in this regards at all ADC head quarters on October 1 which included Churachandpur, Chandel, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Senapati and Kangpokpi.

It said that the teachers have been demanding their pending salaries and arrears not extra money from the government. However the government has been adamant to comply with the genuine demands of the ADC employees.

The teachers have been demanding release of the pending 14 percent DA for the period of January 1, 2001 to June 30, 2005. In case of other government employees this pending DA has been withdrawn from their own GPF account two years back with accumulated interest for a period of 4 years, it claimed.

Further it asserted that as per the order, the first instalment was slated to be released on November 1, 2010 and the second instalment on June 1, 2011.

It informed the executive body meeting of the teachers held on September 24 at Hotel Tampha had taken a firm stance on the indifferent attitude of the government. The meeting also seriously discussed the step motherly treatment meted out to the ADC teachers and warned the government to fulfill the demand of the teachers before it resorted to different forms of agitations.
