Capacity building programme on Water Hyacinth Craft inaugurated

IMPHAL September 25: A ten days long capacity building programme on Water Hyacinth Craft has been inaugurated today at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Konga Road, Imphal east. The ten days programme was organized by Ereima Women’s Welfare Association (EWWA)   under the aegis of North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) and North East Council, (NEC), Ministry of DoNER.

The function was attended by RK Nayansana Devi, chairperson Manipur State Social Welfare Board, Oinam Somorendro Meeei, NEDFi, L Haridash Singh, additional director MSME, DI (IMT) government of India and Sukumar Haobam Designer NID as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Giving impetus to encourage the artisans and craftsperson, the speakers of the function stressed on the need to employ their skill according to the taste of the prospective buyers to boost the sales of their products. They also asserted that diversification in designing products will enhance its utilities and thereby add more values to the products.

The ten days capacity building programme is scheduled to be conducted till October 6. The ten days programme assures of equipping the participating local artisans and craftspersons mostly from the nearby localities of Nandeibam Leikai with adequate inputs and technical know how on producing efficient water hyacinth based commercial products to compete in the global market and thus a common platform will be instituted to showcase the value based hyacinth crafts of the local artisans and craftsperson to facilitate more opportunities to sell the products.
