IMPHAL, Sept 11: Chongtham Somarendro Singh, 77, of Keishamthong Top Leirak, a well known literateur of the state was killed in a road mishap today.
Somorendro who was on a scooter was knocked down by a speeding Tata truck at Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai this morning around 9.30 am under Singjamei police Station.
According to the police source, the deceased who was traveling on his scooter was hit by a Tata truck bearing registration No. MN-03-T-0337 near Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai. He died on the way to hospital this morning.
The source further mentioned, the driver and the truck which involved in the tragic road accident were arrested by the Singjamei police this morning from the spot.
The dead body of the accident victim was handed over to the family this afternoon after post mortem at RIMS morgue by the police.
Chongtham Somarendra is a reputed officer holding important posts in various major department of the state, the source added.
