IMPHAL, Sept 3: Some unidentified armed miscreants set ablaze four dozers at T Natyang village under Kasom Khullen sub-division in Ukhrul district at around 6:30 pm yesterday.
The dozers were being used in the construction works of Imphal-Kasom Khullen Road taken up by state public works department.
According to the labourers, three heavily armed persons came to their temporary house asking for the manager. However, the manager was not present at that time. They informed the armed persons of his absence from the work site.
Without saying any word to them, four dozers stationed near their temporary house were set ablaze using petrol. All four dozers were completely destroyed during the arson.
The burnt down dozers were one D-80, two D-50s and one JCB.
The labourers further stated that the miscreants fired several rounds when they saw some villagers approaching to save the burning dozers.
Chairman of Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association, Ninghor Jajo strongly condemned the act of burning down the dozers used in the construction of Imphal-Kasom Khullen road. The act will only hinder the development of the sub-division, he added.
Meanwhile, a loaded truck bearing registration number AS-03 AC/2435 was burned down by some unidentified persons at Kaziphung under Ukhrul Police Station at around 10:30 pm yesterday.
