IED explodes near ADC Bhawan at Sangakpham, no casualty

IMPHAL, Sept 13: ADC Bhawan located at Sangakpham Bazar in Imphal East came under attack once again with a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded today morning. However, there was no human casualty or extensive damage during the blast.

This is the third time the Bhawan has been attacked by some anti-social elements. The second blast took place on  August 1 killing five persons including two schools girls and the bomber himself while injuring several others. The first attempt in July was however failed.

Police sources said the bomb was an IED and exploded early morning around 5:45 am at the northeastern side of the Bhawan building.

The explosion has inflicted damage on the fencing wall of the Bhawan and shattered the window panes of the building but no human casualty was reported due to the explosion.

The IED ripped off between a toilet and fencing wall of the complex. However, the nature of the device could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.

During the time of explosion no security personnel was available at the sentry post situated few metres away from the explosion site, sources said.

A team of police led by additional SPs Imphal East, Puspanjali and Birbabu, rushed to the spot and conducted investigation in an around the blast site. 

A member of the ADC on the condition of anonymity said that there could have been heavy casualties like before if the bomb did not explode in the wee hours.

He urged any individual or organization involved in the attack to prevent such attack in the future.
