Indefinite chakka bandh imposed on Imphal-Moreh Road

IMPHAL, Sept 24: Decrying the attacks on the drivers and passengers, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers’ and Motor Workers’ Union has imposed indefinite chakka bandh on Imphal-Moreh Road from 6:30 pm today onwards.

Addressing media persons today, secretary JAC of Imphal-Moreh Road Transporters, Ng Haridas stated that the counter-blockade called by UNC is similar to rendering support to the SHDDC as the government has not yet taken a decision on the matter. The counter-blockade could have been more meaningful if it was done after the declaration of Sadar Hills district.

He further stated that economic blockade has become like an annual festival of UNC where the volunteers celebrate the festival by burning down trucks and other vehicles.

Haridas also demanded the authorities concerned to deploy adequate security measures to safeguard the drivers and passengers plying on the vulnerable national highways.

The transporters also expressed their grievance against the police department for not providing security during the economic blockade.

The JAC would meet the Chief Minister to discuss on the matter of providing full-proof security to the transporters as well as compensations to the injured drivers. The transporters would even launch strike if the state government fails to fulfill their demands, Haridas averred.
