IMPHAL, Sept 8: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) has strongly condemned the brutal torture of Md Nur Kamal Sheik alias Ithem of Kwakta Sandhong Bazaar carried out by the personnel of Moirang Police.
Speaking to media persons today at Manipur Press Club, convener MD Shakil Ahmed stated that a team of Moirang Police led by SI A Surchand Singh brutally tortured a BA 3rd semester student of Oriental College on September 5 at around 4pm during frisking at Khudekpi out post of Moirang.
He further disclosed that a public meeting was convened on September 7 at Kwakta Sandhong Bazar and it was resolved that legal action should be taken against the personnel, compensation be given to the victim by the state government and not to prevent such incident in future, he added.
He also stated that the JAC would launch stern agitations if the demands are not fulfilled within one week.
Meanwhile, a memorandum was submitted to Moirang MLA, SP Bishnupur and SDPO Moirang for kind information and necessary action to be taken.
