Mass cleanliness drive in Imphal East

IMPHAL, Sept 25: The Imphal East district police in collaboration with the Imphal Municipal Council, Youth clubs, NGOs and general public today conducted cleanliness drive with the motto “Keep Imphal East Clean and Green” at various localities of Imphal east including the Palace gate New Checkon road.

A statement issued by the Senior SP Imphal east district police stated that the programme was initiated with the objective of creating awareness among the general public regarding piling of garbage on roads/streets which cause inconveniences to commuters and people inhabiting the area and which is also obnoxious to health and well being of people in general.

The cleanliness drive was conducted from Tribal market Checkon to Checkon crossing, to Konung Mamang Rotary to Sanjenthong.

Youth clubs of Konung Mamang, New Lambulane and Hatta, NGOs like CRED, workers union Manipur also actively took part in the drive, it said.

It said that to create a long lasting impact of the programme, the house-owners and shopkeepers of the area were encouraged to enroll with CRED and workers union by paying Rs 50 per month.

As a noble gesture contribution were also made including deputy chairman Planning Board, Bijoy Koijam- Rs 5000, Dr. Heramot- Rs 10,000, New Checkon Bazar Women’s Welfare Society-Rs 550, Mangiton of Waiton- Rs 1000 and Brojen of Palace gate- Rs 500. Besides that Machinery which included excavator and tipper truck used during the O. Henry of Wangkhei and Biren of Lamlai, it said.

The statement further informed that the police have taken up the programme as part of policing and awareness campaign and will continue with the co-operation of the public.
