IMPHAL, September 27: In an tragic incident, the dead bodies of a woman and her one year old daughter were fished out from the Iril river at Keirao Bitra this afternoon by her family, while the search is still on for her three year old daughter.
The victims have been identified as Khunjamayum (O) Kunjarani, 30, w/o Kh. Amuchou of Keirao Bitra and her two infant daughters Kh. Karorani, 3 still missing, and one year old Kavita.
Shocked with the incident, Kh. Amuchou husband of Kunjarani, reportedly collapsed and had to be hospitalized at JNIMS.
Family sources informed that Kunjarani left home along with her daughters around 11:20 am today. On failing to return home till noon the family went out searching for them in and around the locality when they were informed by a local man that the victims were seen walking along the river bank.
The family searched along the river side only to find the lifeless bodies of Kunjarani and her one year old daughter floating on the Iril river around 1:30 pm. The body of the three year old Kavita however was still missing. Search is still on for Kavita, who is also feared to have drowned, till the filling of this report.
Meanwhile, on receiving the incident, parental family of Kunjarani along with the locals of Kongpal Kshetri Leikai thronged the residence of Kh. Amuchou alleging that Kunjarani committed suicide due to harassment meted out to her by her husband’s family.
However, timely intervention by the police prevented the tension from escalating any further.
It was still unclear how the incident occurred but local sources informed that a few metres away from where the bodies were found, there was a trial on the river bank which looked as if someone had slipped into the river from there.
Police have taken up a case in connection with the incident.
The lifeless corpse of Kunjarani and her daughter has been deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem.
